Pre-installation
The tank installation is totally reliant on the sand pad base being level, if it isn’t, no guarantee
can be made that the walls of the tank will be 100% plumb in relation to the base pad it sits on.
1. Pad size required for your tank is:
- 2 meters larger in diameter than tank x 150mm thickness.
- The preferred base material is clean sand or crusher dust.
- Refer to Back of your Heritage Brochure for m³ quantity required.
Instrutions:
- It must be levelled within +/- 10mm over the entire pad diameter and be free of all sticks, rocks, sharp objects, clay lumps, etc. Vegetation, tree roots, etc, must be totally removed, with no possibility of growing back.
- If the site is cut and filled to form the base of the tank, ensure there is adequate compaction of the sub soil to avoid subsidence. Adequate drainage must be installed to divert water run off.
- Pad preparation must be up to these standards, if it is not it may be necessary for our installers to leave site and reschedule the installation (possibly weeks away), until the problem is rectified. This will incur additional charges for travel, mileage, accommodation and an hourly rate. If the problem can be fixed by our installation crew an hourly rate of $ 35.00 per hour will be charged per man + accommodation, meals, materials used.
2. Access into the site
Please ensure clear access for a truck (can be semi trailer, 20 – 30 meters in overall length.) to get up next to the tank base to off load roof sheets an area of 3.5 meters wide x 3.3 meters high without low hanging branches / obstacles is required. Please stipulate if 4WD drive access is required to access the tank site.
Please indicate if there isn’t gravel road access into the area where the tank is to be erected, wet conditions may restrict access to the area. A crushed rock track/drive will be required if wet.
Installation will need to be co-ordinated when access is achievable.
3. Installation day
You will need to organise or have on hand:
- Someone to explain where fittings need to be
- water to place into the base of the tank when the liner is fitted enough to fill 100mm in height. This is very important to hold the liner and tank in position permanently and protects it from any future movement!
- Balance of payment is due on completion of tank installation (cheque or EFT transaction accepted)
4. After installation is completed
75mm thick x 400mm of Blue metal, (¾ or 20mm) must be placed around the total circumference of the base of the tank. This is designed to stop pad erosion when water runs off the roof of tank. The roof must be kept clean of rubbish, (take care not to walk on tank roof, clean off from ladder at sides).
Keep inspection hatch kept locked. (Children must not have access inside of the tank at all). Unauthorised entry into the tank is prohibited.
5. Check with Local Shires/Councils
It is the purchasers responsibility to check with Local Shires/Councils with regard to building licences,
building envelopes and any bylaws.
6. Conditions responsibility
It is the purchaser's responsibility that all the conditions are met and work is completed before the installation date.
7. Suitable dates
Once your pad is completed to the standards specified above, contact Heritage Tanks to arrange a suitable
date as agreed to by both parties.
8. Tank capacities
Tank capacities between litres and Gallons have been rounded off
9. Sufficient fall from the gutters
It is the purchasers responsibility to make sure there is sufficient fall from the gutters to the tank height. (Tank Height 2.3m)
10. Warranty *
After completion of a signed order form, the compliance of the above conditions and full payment, your 20-year warranty will be validated.
* Failure to comply with the above items will void warranties
Pad Preparation Guidelines
The pad must be level to +/- 10mm.
The preparation of the base pad is the responsibility of the customer. Our preferred base material is screened course river sand. It must be free of sticks, stones and clay lumps. If you have to cut or fill the site, ensure adequate compaction of the sub soil to avoid subsidence.
Guide to Pad Levelling Technique:
With a spirit level on top of a straight edge or screed, level out the sand using a temporary pole in the centre of the pad as a central pivot point.
Site examples
1. Level existing site

2. Slightly sloping site:
Pad needs to compensate slope, laid down thicker in areas, to ensure pad is level.

3. Site has been cut in:
we recommend a drain to be dug into the slope above the pad to allow water diversion around the tank when it rains, and then your sand base won’t be washed away from water run off.
